Spay and Neuter Saves Lives
Like you, we want your pet to live as many years as possible in excellent health. Spaying or neutering makes this much more likely! At The Animalife Veterinary Center here in Naples, we're passionate about educating pet parents about the benefits of these surgeries. They not only improve overall health and help pets live longer; they also reduce stray animal overpopulation and make it easier for shelter animals to find homes. As a result, fewer shelter animals are euthanized every year.
Like many pet surgeries, the benefits of spaying and neutering far outweigh any risks. Our team goes above and beyond to maintain safety and keep patients comfortable. We would be glad to sit down with you to discuss our protocols and put your mind at ease.
How We Keep Your Pet Safe in Surgery
General anesthesia is required to keep all pets safe and pain-free during their spay or neuter surgery. Before the procedure, we check their health and administer pain relief medication. Throughout the surgery, a veterinary nurse monitors all of your pet's vitals and keeps them warm to prevent hypothermia.
After your pet's surgery, you'll receive specific aftercare instructions to help them recover comfortably at home. This includes:
- Limiting your pet's activity (running up the stairs, taking long walks, jumping up on things) for about a week
- Keeping an eye on their incision and letting us know if the incision is red and swollen or if any sutures are broken
- Making sure the incision remains clean and dry (no swimming or bathing until sutures are removed)
- Keeping your pet from chewing, licking or biting at their incision--we can recommend an E-collar or other methods to prevent this
